KOTA KINABALU: MYAirline Sdn Bhd, the country’s newest low-cost airline will launch a new route from Kota Kinabalu to Tawau next week.
Its CEO, Rayner Teo, said that the addition of the ninth route shows the success of early planning in expanding the domestic route network, allowing customers, particularly tourists, to have more options to new destinations.
MYAirline previously operated eight routes including Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Langkawi, Kota Bahru, Pulau Pinang, Tawau, Sibu, and Miri.
Teo added that the airline is now exploring other domestic sector routes and conducting market research for Sandakan and Bintulu.
Since operating for the past four months, the domestic route to Sabah has recorded a 96 percent achievement, mostly among local passengers.
MYAirline aims to continue improving its domestic and international routes and plans to add more aircraft to its fleet.
Teo also disclosed that MYAirline is focusing on launching several regional routes including Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam.
The airline plans to involve destinations that have a flight time of less than four hours based on the capacity of the aircraft used.
“We are also discussing with the relevant regulators in this country to obtain permission to fly as soon as possible,” he said.
MYAirline aims to have a new aircraft every month starting this year and is committed to continuing to provide healthy on-time performance (OTP) in its operations.
The airline also aims to reach 4.5 million passengers by the end of the year as more aircraft and new routes are added.
