900 guests treated to buffet brunch during CNY

KOTA KINABALU: The culinary of the various Chinese ethnicity in Sabah were showcased during the Chinese New Year celebration.

Some 700 types of Chinese menus were dished out during the “Feast of Fortune” buffet brunch for 900 guests at Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here during the third day of Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 24.

It was considered the biggest buffet treat in Malaysia and also the largest yee sang tossing at one time participated by 900 guests.

The guests were also entertained with dragon and lion dance performances by Yick Nam dance troupe.

“This year we served almost 80 per cent of Chinese ethnic dishes from Hakka to Cantonese, Hokkien and many more.

“It was also unique to see all our kitchen chefs  coming together to assist a Chinese chef to prepare over hundred of dishes for the event,” said SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki.

She said SICC is promoting the uniqueness of Sabah where the diverse communities living in unity regardless of races and faiths as some of the guests came from as far as Sipitang, Kota Belud and Tawau.

“We also have tourists from US and Korea who  came to enjoy our unique culinary which is in line with our theme of celebrating the festivities in a unity atmosphere,” she said.

She said the variety of culinary will be a regular fixture during major celebrations such as Christmas, Chinese New Year and Hari Raya.
