The federal government has allocated RM270 million to enhance public transportation across Malaysia, aiming for efficient and sustainable options.
At the launch of Kumpool Sabah at Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP) Chairman Vivian Wong Shir Yee emphasized the importance of a robust transport network in Kota Kinabalu, which connects people to jobs and essential services.
“The need for efficient, reliable, and sustainable transportation solutions has never been more critical,” she said.
She believes that Kumpool could reduce congestion, lower emissions, and offer affordable alternatives.
Kumpool, a demand-responsive transit (DRT) service, complements existing bus routes with over 60 checkpoints around Kota Kinabalu.
Wong encouraged residents to embrace Kumpool for daily commuting.
Director of Asia Direct Travel & Tours Sdn Bhd (ADTT), Imelda Ambrose Angkangon, expressed confidence that the ADTT-Kumpool partnership would strengthen Kota Kinabalu’s transportation ecosystem, particularly for students.
Goh Chun Hean, Head of Kumpool, stated that Kumpool Sabah extends their Borneo presence and replicates success seen in Peninsular Malaysia.
Operational since August 1, 2024, Kumpool Sabah aims to support public transport and tourism in Sabah through better mobility options.
