TUARAN: June 10, 2026

A 37-year-old man in Kampung Serusup here was detained to assist in investigations into the possession of protected wildlife products.

The arrest followed a successful joint special operation by the Wildlife Crime Bureau (WCB) and the Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) based on intelligence gathering and investigations.

The operation team seized 300 eggs suspected to be Green Turtle eggs, with an estimated value of RM3,000.

The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 for possession of products derived from a fully protected animal without valid authorisation.

SWD views seriously any activities involving the possession, trade or smuggling of wildlife.

It will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to ensure protected wildlife species remain safeguarded.

Despite various behavioural change campaigns and public awareness programmes, demand for turtle eggs still exists.

The demand continues to drive smuggling and illegal sales activities.

Members of the public are advised not to buy, possess or consume turtle eggs as it is an offence under the law.

Any information related to the sale or smuggling of turtle eggs should be reported immediately to the authorities.

This will help combat wildlife crime and protect Sabah’s turtle populations.
