Firefly to set up hub in KK

KOTA KINABALU: Firefly, a low-cost carrier and a subsidiary of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), will establish a full-fledged hub in Kota Kinabalu in May 2023.

This move will allow Firefly to take over some of Malaysia Airlines’ routes in Sabah, specifically Kota Kinabalu-Sandakan, Kota Kinabalu-Tawau, and Kota Kinabalu-Kuching.

Furthermore, Firefly plans to introduce direct flights from China to Sabah later this year, with Xiamen to Kota Kinabalu being the first charter route to operate once the hub is set up.

The decision to set up a hub in Kota Kinabalu will also facilitate more direct connectivity with China and the North Asia-Pacific.

The announcement was made by Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew, who was briefed on the development by Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, the CEO of airlines at MAG.
