Eleven youth have completed their eight-month hospitality training programme under the hospitality engagement learning programme (HELP), which was conducted in collaboration between the Sabah Human Resource Development Department (JPSM) and Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL).
The trainees were given hands-on practical training in housekeeping, front office, and environmental sustainability as well as learnt about the culinary skills at the food and beverage department.
This programme is aimed at assisting youth in Sabah to be equipped with skills and knowledge in the growing post Covid-19 hospitality industry.
The programme ran from March 1 to October 31, and the trainees received their scrolls during a graduation ceremony held at a hotel recently.
The JPSM Director, Celestina Aron was represented by Regina Sikain, Administrative Officer of the Skills Training Sponsorship Section, and Khairul Safwan, Assistant Training Officer while BRL
were represented by Abd Sail Jamaludin, Director of Operations and Bernard Majawai, Human Resource Manager.
Best trainee for this batch was nominated to Stephelin Helson from Food and Beverage Department and the best report was nominated to three trainees, Clarissa Chong from Environmental Sustainability (ES), Nur Saffiatul Kuzaidah Jakarula from Front Office Department and Nur Fazillah Abdullah.
This attachment programme serves as an effective recruitment method for identifying potential talents. It reduces the high turnover rate in the hospitality industry, thus developing public awareness among locals regarding career opportunities and developing the Sabah workforce.
