KOTA KINABALU: Kampung Natai in Telipok has been identified as a promising site for community-based tourism.
The 101-hectare land is located within the Crocker range biosphere reserve, just 36km away from Kota Kinabalu.
During a community-based tourism advocacy programme at Tamaza ACV, City Hall’s tourism director, Fauziaton Ag Samad, recommended that relevant departments and the community work together to promote tourism in the area.
She said City Hall is committed to providing guidance and advice to help the community achieve their goals despite limited budget.
Representatives from Sabah Parks, the Agriculture Department, Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Sabah Tourism Board, and Community Development Leader Unit were present to provide advice and brief participants.
The Sabah Parks representatives explained their efforts to conserve the area since 2014.
Emalia from Homestay Desa Cinta Kampung Kobuni shared her success story in community-based tourism.
The Sabah Tourism Board also briefed participants on the progress achieved in various tourism programmes throughout Sabah.
Organising chairman Terence Dolinting said that residents in Kampung Natai have opportunities to promote the area’s rivers, waterfalls, and forests as a tourism product.
