Innoprise Jungle Lodge Sdn Bhd, which runs the Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) in Danum Valley, has been recognised for protecting the rainforest, winning the Best Company Environmental, Social, and Governance Award in the tourism sector.
Last month, the award was presented during the Yayasan Sabah Award Night 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).
BRL was among 10 companies honoured for their contributions.
Its Chief Executive Officer, Freddie Coleman, received the award from Sabah State Assembly Speaker Seri Kadzim M Yahya, who represented Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Freddie recalled how, three decades ago, the idea of building a lodge deep in the rainforest seemed like a bold gamble.
“What started as a dream has now become a thriving eco-tourism destination known for conservation and sustainability,” he said.
He also paid tribute to the late George Hong, BRL’s former Managing Director, whose vision helped preserve the rainforest while supporting local communities.
“Over the years, BRL has grown from a simple nature lodge into a luxury retreat that has hosted international guests, including William, Prince of Wales,” he added.
Freddie said BRL remains focused on its goal of becoming a world-class nature tourism provider in Borneo.
The lodge also works to train and prepare young people for the real world, teaming up with Sabah’s Human Resource Development and University College Sabah Foundation to offer hands-on learning experiences.
