In a bid to promote environmental awareness, the Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL), nestled in Danum Valley, Lahad Datu, hosted a series of activities from March 15 to 22 in conjunction with Earth Hour 2025.
The initiative featured a candle-lighting ceremony as a symbolic gesture to highlight energy conservation, said BRL Chief Executive Officer Freddie Coleman.
“A tree-planting initiative was carried out as part of a long-term commitment to sustainability and environmental restoration.
“Educational talks focusing on nocturnal wildlife conservation were held, emphasising the importance of preserving habitats for creatures that thrive in the dark,” he said.
Additionally, an eco-documentary screening night showcased films on climate change, deforestation, and wildlife conservation.

As part of its digital engagement, BRL launched a social media challenge, inviting visitors to capture and share their best nighttime photos taken at the lodge.
“The most captivating images will be featured on BRL’s official social media platforms, with winners receiving exclusive BRL t-shirts,” he said.
The week-long event will culminate on March 22 with the observance of Earth Hour, during which all non-essential lights will be switched off for 60 minutes in a symbolic stand against climate change, he said.
BRL encourages the public to take part in the activities and contribute to global sustainability efforts.
