The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) aims for a sustainable collaboration with the Economy Ministry to develop rural tourism, addressing poverty in local communities.
STB Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai and Deputy Economy Minister Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib visited the Tagal Eco-Tourism initiative in Kampung Poturidong, Kiulu witnessing the potential of community-based tourism.
Hanifah acknowledged the tagal system’s significance, emphasising Sabah’s unique attractions.
Both parties agreed on improving amenities for visitors, with the Ministry exploring ways to enhance rural tourism.
Joniston hopes to present STB’s plans, aligning strategies for maximum impact, fostering sustainable practices, and creating a win-win for responsible tourism and socio-economic growth.
The visit included inspecting a bridge project benefiting 3,000 villagers.
