Youth involvement in rural tourism development in Kiulu received recognition through awards presented during the Santai Pitimungan Belia Kiulu programme, held at the Pulou Kelapa Eco-Tourism Open Hall in Kampung Malanggang Lama.
Juanson Moidin from Kampung Pahu was awarded as the Youth Tourism Entrepreneur, acknowledging his role in promoting local tourism initiatives.

The event, which drew over 500 attendees, was jointly organised by Kelab Belia Prihatin Kiulu (KBPK) and the Kiulu Tourism Association.
KBPK Chairperson Elsheera Alfred Yapat said the programme aimed to bring together youth in an empowering environment to share talents, build networks, and support community development through platforms such as tourism.
“Kiulu has great potential in tourism, agriculture, and industry. I believe our youth can unlock this potential, with creativity, spirit, and wisdom as their greatest assets,” she said.
Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister and Kiulu Assemblyman, Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, said youth play a key role in driving tourism and other community-based initiatives.
“Young people in Kiulu should not rely solely on existing opportunities, but must be bold in creating their own space.
“Technology and social media should be used wisely to highlight village uniqueness, generate income, and support initiatives such as agropreneurship, home cafés, and community-based tourism services,” he said.
He proposed an Idea Pitch Mini programme to allow youth to present business or community tourism project ideas with the opportunity to receive seed funding, as part of broader empowerment efforts.
The event also showcased a local produce market and featured tourism-linked cultural activities such as a traditional costume design competition and musical performances.
