SATTA propose visit China after Covid-19 is contained

KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (SATTA) has proposed a visit to Zhangjiajie in Hunan province after the Covid-19 outbreak is contained in China.

Its chairman, Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw said on March 11, 2020 the visit was to reciprocate China strong support towards the Sabah’s tourism sector.

“This is to show not only we are the first joint government private community who contribute to China, but also wish the first government private community to visit China after China declare the virus has contained,” Liaw said.

He had proposed the entourage from Sabah should comprise members of the non-governmental organisations involved in the Sabah Government initiated ‘We Care, We Love’ Charity Fund Raising Dinner at Wisma Hakka Hall in aid of Wuhan’s Covid-19 patients in Feb this year.

“Maybe we can visit Zhangjiajie which is adorned with beautiful scenic views neither in May or June this year as by then the outbreak might be contained,” Liaw proposed.

He had discussed the idea with Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah president Tan Sri TC Goh and Consul General of China in Kota Kinabalu Liang Caide during the handing over of the RM2 million funds raised for Wuhan on Tuesday.

The proceeds was presented by Deputy Chief Minister cum Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew to Liang at the Tourism Ministry office.

Meanwhile, he said SATTA strongly believed that regardless of who is the government of the day, Sabah should not be left out in the development of the nation.

The newly formed federal government should focus on the nation’s economy in order to enhance our citizens well being.

“The federal government should work hand in hand with Sabah Government to promote and enhance the state’s economy so that the citizens of Sabah will have speedy recovery from the impact done by Covid-19,” he urged.
