Crocodile alert at Pulau Sapi

KOTA KINABALU: October 2026

Sabah Parks has stepped up safety measures at Pulau Sapi after a crocodile was sighted off Pantai B, Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, on October 5.

Joint patrols with the Sabah Wildlife Department are now underway.

All operators running water activities — scuba diving, snorkelling and sea-walking — must check the water before allowing tourists in. Swimming and snorkelling alone is now banned. Visitors must enter in groups.

Sabah Parks has installed crocodile warning signs. Lifeguards are issuing continuous safety reminders. All tourism operators in the park have been briefed on emergency procedures.

A special operation to locate and relocate the animal is ongoing. A net has been installed in a high-risk area and is being monitored to ensure turtles and other marine life do not become trapped.

Monitoring has also been extended to other parts of Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.

Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin said visitor safety is the priority.

“I have instructed Sabah Parks and the Wildlife Department to take all necessary measures, including increasing monitoring and search operations,” he said.

He urged visitors to follow instructions from park staff and operators and to report any crocodile sighting immediately.
