A new tourism product called ‘Go to Lepa Banggi’ has been introduced to attract more international tourists to visit Kudat.
The Gulam Modal Insan Foundation (YGMI) launched this product and also entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Liaoning Northern International Travel Service Company Limited, a Chinese company.
The launch event and MoU signing ceremony took place at UTC Sembulan.
The product launch was officiated by Deputy Chief Minister II, Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam, who expressed his congratulations and best wishes to YGMI, particularly its President, Dato’ Seri Gulam Tumai, for taking this initiative.
Dr Joachim expressed confident that this collaboration will significantly increase the number of foreign tourists, especially Chinese nationals, visiting the district.
“The tourism industry in Sabah is a vital source of income that can drive the state’s economy.
“The influx of tourists to Sabah will create numerous job opportunities for local residents and help reduce the unemployment rate,” he said.
He also stressed the significance of the Kudat district, which is renowned for its stunning open sea beauty, picturesque islands, rich cultural heritage, and traditions of the Rungus ethnic group.
The annual Gong Festival held in Kudat is an additional attraction for tourists.
He believes that initiatives like this will encourage tourists to explore not only popular destinations like Semporna and Kundasang but also other districts such as Kudat.
“The state government welcomes such initiatives and hopes that more captivating locations within the state will become popular tourist destinations for both local and international visitors,” he said.
