Three community-based tourism operators in Kiulu, including Lingga Eco-Tourism, Murug Turug Eco-Tourism, and Bambangan Lama Recreational Centre, are advancing towards ASEAN Tourism Standard accreditation.
This signifies rural progress in tourism, stated Kiulu assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai.
These operators will submit nominations to the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture for the ASEAN Community-Based Tourism Standard Category.
He said during the launch of Kipumpun Riverside Camp and Stand-Up Paddle Tourism Centre in Kiulu.
Kiulu Tourism Association president Meijin Maginggow also in attendence.
Joniston emphasized that this accreditation boosts Kiulu’s global visibility, attracting responsible travellers and benefiting the community economically.
Kiulu, known for its sustainable tourism practices, has over 70 tourism businesses, mostly community-based.
Selected as a pilot project for rural tourism development in 2014, Kiulu has seen significant growth, attracting more visitors to rural areas.
