KOTA KINABALU: 20 October 2026
Borneo Rainforest Lodge in Danum Valley has won two awards at the Sabah Landscape Architecture Awards 2026, recognising its work in landscape management and rainforest conservation.
The lodge received the Meranti Award and Excellence Award in the Landscape Industry Category (Private Sector), under the Hotel, Resort, Homestay, Glamping and Camping category.
Owned and operated by Innoprise Jungle Lodge Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Yayasan Sabah Group, the lodge offers nature-based tourism in one of Sabah’s most important rainforest areas.
The awards were organised by the Sabah Ministry of Local Government and Housing (KKTP) in collaboration with the Institute of Landscape Architects Malaysia (ILAM).
At the ceremony, Sabah Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Ariffin Arif highlighted the need to balance socio-economic development with the protection of natural ecosystems.
At Borneo Rainforest Lodge, landscape management goes beyond appearance. Native plants support local wildlife, while natural ventilation and lighting help reduce energy use.
These measures reflect the lodge’s approach to responsible tourism, balancing guest comfort with rainforest conservation.
Borneo Nature Tours Sdn Bhd and Innoprise Jungle Lodge Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Sail Jamaludin said the awards recognised the importance of the natural environment to the guest experience.
“We are honoured to receive these recognitions at the Sabah Landscape Architecture Awards 2026. For us, the landscape is an integral part of the experience at Borneo Rainforest Lodge.
“Our responsibility goes beyond providing memorable stays. It also means respecting the natural environment and ensuring that our approach to hospitality remains closely aligned with the conservation of Danum Valley,” he said.
Sail attended the ceremony with executive assistant Jill Justine.
The awards mark another milestone for the lodge in its efforts to promote responsible hospitality and preserve Danum Valley’s rainforest heritage.
