Kiulu, known for eco and cultural tourism, is now promoting agro-tourism.
The inaugural pineapple and local fruits festival initiated by Kiulu Assemblyman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, witnessed participation from 60 growers and SMEs.
Representatives from tourism associations and hotels attended.
Joniston who is also Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, stressed the need to diversify attractions for longer visitor stays.
He highlighted experiential tourism, like farm stays, as a promising avenue for rural growth.
Encouraging rural communities to utilize idle land for cultivation, Joniston noted the potential of small-scale food processing as an added attraction.
Jointly organised by the Kiulu Assemblyman Service Centre, Sabah Tourism Board, Koperasi Kiulu Bersatu, and Pekan Nabalu Hawkers Association, the festival marks a significant step toward enriching Kiulu’s tourism landscape.
