Sabah pavilion receives positive reception at Matta Travel Fair

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sabah pavilion was among the busiest at the recent Matta Travel Fair, with visitors flocking to make inquiries and purchase travel packages.

Sabah had the largest presence at the fair, with 45 travel and tour agents in attendance.

According to Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, Chairman of the Sabah Tourism Board, the positive reception Sabah received was particularly encouraging given that many visitors were ready to purchase package deals on the spot.

Joniston noted that while destinations such as Semporna, Kundasang, and Kinabatangan remained popular among consumers, many also expressed interest in exploring other parts of the state.

“This is a good indicator that consumers are interested in seeing more of Sabah to have unique experiences that are distinctive,” he said.

Joniston, who is also Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister, visited the Sabah booths to speak with travel agents and consumers who were planning trips to the state.

Many had already purchased packages to Kundasang, Kota Belud, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and Sandakan to dive, observe wildlife, and experience local culture, among other activities.

In addition to engaging with travel agents and consumers, Joniston hosted a dinner with news editors, travel bloggers, and influencers.

The event aimed to foster closer ties with the peninsula-based media community and to share up-to-date information on all things Sabah, with a focus on the tourism industry.
