KOTA KINABALU: Organized by the KSRun Athletics Club, the North Borneo Race is an exciting running event that will take place in Kota Kinabalu city in September.
The race is limited to 70 teams, each consisting of four people.
Participants will embark on a nostalgic journey, where they will have to decipher riddles to reach the next checkpoint during the run.
The race will highlight historical buildings and sites within Kota Kinabalu city.
Wendy John, the event organizer, briefed Sabah Tourism Board Chairman Datuk Joniston Bangkuai about the race.
Twenty teams have already registered for the event.
Joniston stated that the North Borneo Race aligns well with the new Sabah destination logo, ‘Feel Sabah, North Borneo,’ and could attract participants from other states and tourists.
The Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister believes the race is educational and beneficial to anyone interested in learning about the city’s past.
September is an ideal time to hold the North Borneo Race as it coincides with the celebration of Malaysia Day.
During the race, participants will find their way through the city and interact with locals.
Teams will face physical and mental challenges that emphasize the location’s culture and history. They will travel by car and foot throughout the race.
The winning team will receive RM3,000, the first runner-up RM2,000, and the second runner-up RM1,000.
