RM2 million set aside to boost domestic tourism

KOTA KINABALU: The caretaker Sabah Government has allocated RM2 million to stimulate domestic travel to Sabah on Thursday on September 17.

The RM2 million was carved out from the RM5 million allocated for the Sabah New Deal Package MICE Incentive 2020-2021.

The ‘Domestic Tourism Stimulus Package’ was launched by caretaker Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew who represented caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal at the Sabah International Convention Centre.

“This will give a boost to the industry players to further intensify their efforts to activate the tourism activities of Sabah,” Shafie said in his speech ready by Christina.

“Under the ‘Domestic Travel Stimulus’, all Sabah based licensed tour operators selling domestic tour packages which include accommodation, transportation and tours are eligible to get incentive RM 50 per traveller as per the criteria set by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah,” he explained.

The incentive is only applicable for the three days and two nights tour packages. And the tour operators must bring in a minimum of four travellers to claim the RM50. The travellers must stay with the same tour operator throughout the two nights sojourn.-HS
