Now selling durian is also going online which is one of the best options for those craving to eat the king of fruits but yet wanted stay contactless.

“Buying durian is getting fun nowadays as now we have online live telecast bidding session for those who stay at home.

“The selling price of durian will start from zero and the highest bidder will win and also entitled for a lucky draw gift in a form of cash or fruits,” said Anther Liew who is the operator of the newly opened The Garden at Kampung Kepayan, off Lintas road here.

The Garden was created to provide a proper place for tourists and locals-alike to eat durian and other cuisines at a comfortable place.

“Many people like this concept (online bidding) because it was fun and this is the new trend nowadays since the MCO started.

“Some customers who dine at the Garden also participated in the bidding session because they want to experience the fun and excitement.

“The participants are given two minutes to decide and the bidder who really want to eat a particular durian, for example Undang Merah or Fung Ha, they don’t mind to raise the bid to few ringgits, especially when it was the last one left.

“Usually, the winning bidders will only pay over RM5 from the usual price, furthermore it is free delivery within Kota Kinabalu, Inanam and Putatan areas,” Anther said.

Every day, certain among of durians will be set aside for the bidding session and when the stocks finished, they will switch to seafood, he said.

Sabah Tourist Association chairman Tonny Chew commented: “I think this is a good move as we can turn this into yet another tourism destination and product.

“This is also timely because we receive a lot of comments from tourists that we don’t have new product and location to offer besides the older locations.

“So, this is a one-stop centre and a new location to eat durian at a localised price. At the moment they are targeting the domestic market as they have 10 food stalls selling Japanese food, dumplings, barbecue and many more.” -HS
