Sabah hosted Malaysia Day on Sept 16

Sabah had the most wonderful Malaysia Day celebration at Padang Merdeka on Sept 16, said Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew.

“Despite the sudden downpour and strong winds in the middle of the event, nothing could dampen the spirit of Malaysians who stayed until the end,” said Liew, who is also the Organising Chairman of the event.

“(Co-organiser) Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzli and I are grateful to our team for the hard work they put into ensuring everything went smoothly,” said Liew.

As hosts for this year’s national celebrations, they ensured that all regions of Malaysia were represented in the performances, with artists from Sabah, Sarawak, and Peninsular Malaysia present, she said.

“It was a celebration of our history as we remember how we became a nation 61 years ago, and also a celebration of our future, as we recognise that there is more that unites us than what separates us,” she said.

She also expressed her appreciation to all who were present at the event.

“You made it more meaningful for us, the organisers, and we appreciate your joy and warmth.”

“My appreciation to our Prime Minister, our Chief Minister, and the Premier of Sarawak, as well as all the foreign dignitaries who made the event such a special one,” said Liew.
