Sabah aims to welcome 2.8 million tourists in 2024, targeting RM5.6 billion in tourism receipts, announced Tourism Minister Datuk Christina Liew.
This ambition hinges on organizing renowned events like the Mount Kinabalu Climbathon and Sabah Fest.
Liew expressed gratitude for state government support, allocating funds to the Sabah Convention Bureau to enhance business events and attract high-end tourists.
Preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026 include ongoing backing for rural tourism upgrades, with a RM7 million allocation approved for next year.
The 2024 budget aligns with the ministry’s commitment to balancing development and biodiversity preservation.
Liew highlighted a memorandum of understanding between Sabah Parks and Korea National Park Service, fostering Global Geopark cooperation for five years.
Preliminary discussions have also begun with China’s Shennongjia Forestry District to manage the Shennongjia Global Geopark, reinforcing confidence in sustainable Kinabalu Global Geopark management.
The Tourism Ministry remains dedicated to nurturing Sabah’s natural, cultural, and heritage assets.
