Sabah Tourism Board launches collection of GIFs on Giphy

The Sabah Tourism Board (STB) has launched a dynamic digital arts initiative to enhance its marketing efforts.

Unveiled at the MATTA Fair in Kuala Lumpur, STB introduced its inaugural collection of GIFs on Giphy, a popular creative platform, to promote Sabah’s tourism products and attractions.

The initiative, jointly launched by Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry (MOTAC) secretary-general Datuk Roslan Abdul Rahman and Sabah Assistant Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai, aims to connect with a wider audience through Giphy’s integration with social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, WhatsApp, and Facebook.

STB collaborated with four talented Sabahan artists to create animated content that represents various aspects of Sabah, from adventure and culture to islands, beaches, and nature.

Each artist crafted 10 unique designs in their distinctive styles. Users can find these custom GIFs and stickers by searching for @sabahtourism or related keywords on social media.

Prior to the MATTA Fair, STB ran an online contest on social media, offering winners the chance to claim artisanal products from Sabah’s small business owners at the travel fair.

The initiative reflects STB’s commitment to innovative promotion and collaboration with local creative communities.

During the MATTA Fair, attendees have the opportunity to win prizes from the Sabah Tourism Board by uploading photos of themselves at the Sabah Pavilion and using the Sabah Tourism Giphy stickers.

STB encourages everyone to add a touch of fun to their travel stories by incorporating @sabahtourism stickers in their posts.

STB’s unique venture onto the Giphy platform makes it the first tourism board in Malaysia to utilize this creative medium for promoting Sabah’s tourism offerings.
