Attempt for longest ghost net cleanup world record

The Asia Dive Expo (ADEX) Sabah Ocean Partnership Summit, will attempt to set a world record for the longest ghost net cleanup in Kota Kinabalu.

The event aims to raise awareness about the importance of protecting Sabah’s marine environment.

ADEX Sabah will take place from August 18 to 20 at the Sabah International Convention Center (SICC), with the ghost net cleanup slated on August 20.

Hong Kong actress Hidy Yu and Guinness World Record swimmer Ben Lecomte will be ambassadors for the event.

The initiative brings together a team of divers to remove ghost nets for 23 consecutive hours.

Local dive operators are encouraged to participate and benefit from the event’s seminars and workshops.

ADEX Sabah will also feature international speakers, activities, and topics related to sustainable marine tourism.

The project director Theresa Tham hopes the event will foster unity, inspire conservation efforts, and educate the younger generation about environmental consciousness.
