Police in Semporna have advised tourists to respect local laws, customs, and culture, following the arrest of a foreign tourist who was found posing naked on the balcony of a hotel room facing the road.
The District Police Chief, Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, expressed appreciation for the public’s cooperation in maintaining harmony and safety in the district.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Semporna District Police Headquarters and has been charged under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code for obscene behavior in a public place.
The incident, which occurred at 8am, was recorded by passersby and the video was widely shared on social media.
The suspect has been remanded for four days until June 12, 2023, for further investigation.
The police are urging the person who recorded the incident to come forward and provide information to facilitate the investigation.
