KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew has stated that the decision regarding the completion of the Mazu statue in Kudat, which was halted midway 17 years ago, is in the hands of the state government.
The minister has visited the site and met with locals who hold varying opinions on the matter.
Some want construction to be expedited, while some remain opposed to it. The matter will be conveyed to the State Cabinet for consideration and approval.
The minister has also raised concerns over the high flight prices imposed by airlines during holiday seasons, stating that it would deter Sabah’s tourism industry.
She suggested that airlines increase their flight frequencies instead of raising prices.
She expressed that it is unfair to expect students or those working abroad to pay expensive prices every time they want to come home and see their families during the holidays.
The minister plans to raise this matter with the Chief Minister and the Transport Minister.
She also emphasized that Sabahans must not be ignored, and there are many domestic tourists who want to use holidays as an opportunity to visit Sabah, but the expensive flight tickets are a deterrent.
