All fees to Sabah Parks including climbing permit to Mt Kinabalu will be increased and more expensive starting Jan 1, 2023.
Sabah Parks director Dr Maklarin Lakim in a statement said the increment of fees was announced by state Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Jafry Ariffin.
Among the tourist sites under the management of Sabah Parks included Tunku Abdul Rahman Park, Crocker Range Park and Tawau Hills Park.
For international climbers, the fee is up to RM400 per person from RM200 for adults aged 18 years old and above, while for children, RM200 from RM80, according to mountkinabalu.com.
Begining next year, the permit fee for Malaysian adults to climb Mt Kinabalu is going up to RM100 per person from RM50, while Malaysian children 17 years old and below is now at RM50 per person from RM 30.
For the entrance fee to Kinabalu National Park for Malaysian adults is RM10 per person per day, and RM5 per person per day for children.
Those who are 12 years old and below and 60 years old and above, including the disabled will be free.
For international visitors, the entrance fee is RM50 per person per day for adults and RM25 per person per day for children.
The mountain guide rate is also revised upward to RM350 from RM230 for a maximum of five climbers.
“This decision is made to overcome the increase of the park’s operational and management costs.
“This is also in line with Sabah Park’s vision to reach sustainable financing by 2025,” he said.
