KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Satta) chairman Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw has decided to offer himself as candidate for the Kota Kinabalu parliamentary seat in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Liaw representing Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat (KDM) says he has 50 ways to upgrade all the facilities in Kota Kinabalu to boost its tourism activities.
He said Kota Kinabalu has been not moving forward for decades as until today the city still did not have a proper public transport system to address the massive traffic jam.
He said Sabah need to do more to woo more international tourists arrival to the state in order to expand its economy.
Tourism is a crucial sector for the state as 90 per cent of Sabahans worked in this industry.
“I want to make full use of my three decades of experience in the tourism industry to develop the state’s economy.
“Even though the domestic economy is picking up but we’re still lacking in foreign injection,” he said.
We need to develop Kota Kinabalu into a vibrant city so that more tourists will come here to spend their money, he said.
He is involved in a five-cornered fight with incumbent PH-DAP Chan Foong Hin, GRS-PBS Yee Tsai Yiew, Parti Warisan Amanda Yeo and independent Marcel June.
The nomination of candidates were held on Nov 5 at Kota Kinabalu community centre and polling day has been set on Nov 19.
