Bugis culture to be Sabah’s tourism product

KOTA KINABALU: The inaugural Bugis Ethnic Food Fiesta held in Tawau is yet another cultural heritage product for the tourism sector.

The product, a pilot project was launched in September 2022. It is aiming to boost tourism activities and community involvement.

A variety of traditional Bugis delicacies and traditional dances were showcased during the event to highlight their culture and customs.

There were 21 types of traditional cuisines being served to the guests and visitors, among them were Berongko, Sikapuru, Kapurung, Baje, Palaya, Baulu Pecca, Sokko, Palopo, Tumpi-Tumpi, Beppalaya and many more.

The Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry fully support the fiesta and hope it can be developed to a next level with the participation of all ethnic groups in the state.

“One of our focuses is to develop a tourism product based on heritage and culture, which will certainly attract more domestic and international tourists,” said Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry permanent secretary Datuk  Mohd Yusrie Abdullah who was the guest of honour to the event.-HS
