Sabah keen on architectural tourism

KOTA KINABALU: Architectural tourism is another area for Sabah to consider as new product.

Sabah diverse cultural elements should be utilised in building design so as to become an attraction.

Sabah Assistant Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Joniston Bangkuai see the state over 40 ethnic groups should be highlighted and featured in the architectural design.

He mulled the idea after making a familiarisation tour to Terengganu on Sept 18-21 together with Sabah Tourism Board team.

During the trip, they visited the Terengganu State Museum which featured a local traditional home design.

The Sabah Tourism Board’s visit to Terengganu was to reciprocate Terengganu Tourism Department visit to Sabah on Feb this year.

Terengganu was impressed with the success of Sabah’s community-based tourism (CoBT) which they want to emulate.

The Sabah Tourism Board team also visited Pulau Redang, Islamic Civilisation Park, Terengganu Cultural Village, Pasar Payang, Chinatown and Noor Arfa Batik.-HS
