KOTA KINABALU: Tenom has created scores of interesting tourism products for visitors to explore this year as they celebrates the ‘Visit Tenom 2020’.
“We are promoting Tenom as the land of culture and nature as we have a long list of attractions waiting for the tourists to visit. We have designed proper travel guide map and directory for the tourists to refer.
“2020 is Tenom Visit Year that we had launched in recent months in conjunction with Visit Malaysia 2020. We have created many hands-on activities for the visitors to experience compared to last time where they could only do sightseeing,” Sharon said (pic).
Furthermore, many youngsters have returned to Tenom and they had been actively developing the tourism industry as they had seen the promising potential derived from rural tourism, she said.
“We have also set up an official website called ‘Go Tenom’ for the visitors to search for the complete tourism information about Tenom including where to go, eat, shop and stay, among others,” Sharon said.
Among the new products included the Marais Village, Kuala Tomani to experience the Murut traditional way of planting paddy, crafts making, cooking class and cycling, which can be tailored according to the visitors’ request, she said.
The Yong Farmstay which is popular for its transparent glass bridge has now added the archery activity besides its ATV bike, bamboo house, mini zoo and mini museum, she said.
“We have also working closely with Eco Yap Farm in Keningau to promote education tour. The farm is now a leading fresh milk supplier in Sabah,” she added.
Fatt Choi Sdn Bhd, one of the famous coffee makers in Sabah is now offering hands-on coffee experience from bean to cup tour where visitors will know more about coffee, she said.
Some of the Tenom fruits orchard such as pomelo, avocado and rambutan are now open for visitors too and they are promoting the farm walk, she said.
Gastronomic lovers can opt for the food tour to taste the wide range of local cuisines which is still cooked using firewood, the traditional way, she said.
Also, not to be missed is the Binai hollow tree near the town area which is one of the stopovers for the cycling tour, she said, adding the uniqueness of the tree is that it would still survive despite being burnt by fire many times.
For those who want to explore the highland of Tenom, they can visit Rundum to experience the cold weather and panoramic view of the rainforest, she said.
Other than that, the Sabah Agriculture Park and Murut Cultural Centre are some of the interesting places to visit.
