KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Native Registered Tourist Guide Association (PBB) and the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has successfully collected 100 pints of blood in their joint blood donation campaign on January 9-10.
The programme was held at MRCS premises off Tuaran road here to help the blood bank of Queen Elizabeth Hospital 2.
About 10 per cent of the some 600 registered PBB members had turned up to donate their blood which at the same time also received essential goodies as assistance during the Covid-19 pandemic.
PBB President Abdul Latif Abd Majif was delighted to meet the target and thanked the members for their support.
While waiting for the adversely impacted tourism sector to recover, Abdul Latif is doing alternative jobs now as a Grab driver and a runner to make ends meet.
According to him, many tourist guides are now doing odd jobs to survive such as security guard, personal driver, grass cutter and food delivery.
“Some of them selling home cooking food whilst some went back to the villages to be farmers, fishermen and tap rubber trees,” he said.
Abdul Latif is optimistic the good times of the tourism industry will be back again after the MCO as this year the government is promoting the Cuti Cuti Malaysia.
“The people are very eager to travel and go for holidays as I saw most of the lodges and homestays in Kundasang enjoyed high occupancy rate during the CMCO,” noted Abdul Latif.-HS
