KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents welcomed the Sabah Government decision to do away with the needs to undergo Covid-19 quarantine for inter-state arrivals.
Its chairman, Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw describe it as a good move as the government decided to allow all air, sea and land travels to Sabah by civil servants, private sector workers and Malaysians including Sabahans from peninsula, Sarawak and Labuan.
“Like I suggested in May that all arrivals to Sabah should be tested before boarding the aircrafts for Covid-19 negative results.
“This strategy also can be practised for international arrivals, but government to government must engage in a negotiation as soon as possible.
“This new development will enable the tourism market to kick-start at least 30 per cent of the normal volume,” Liaw predicted.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal in a statement on June 2 announced travellers must, upon arrival in Sabah, furnish confirmation letters from the Health Ministry that they have tested negative for the disease in their respective areas or states within the last three days.
Non-Sabahans and non-Malaysians must have valid work or other relevant passes on arrival in the state.-HS
