Record-breaking ASEAN yee sang strengthens Sabah’s tourism, trade and investment appeal

Sabah’s reputation as a model of social harmony and regional cooperation was underscored with an attempt to set an ASEAN record for the longest Yee Sang, measuring 1,500 metres, at the Kongsi Raya Muhibbah Yee Sang event held at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the event went beyond festive celebration, reflecting the deep-rooted values of unity, mutual respect and coexistence that define Sabah’s multicultural society.

“It is this harmony that makes Sabah a peaceful, stable and exemplary state, where people of different ethnicities and beliefs live together in an atmosphere of mutual understanding,” he said in his speech, delivered by Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun.

The record attempt, Hajiji said, was not merely about scale or numbers, but symbolised the collective spirit of Sabah’s people working together towards a common purpose.

“It represents the unity of Sabahans of diverse cultures and beliefs, united in their commitment to build and develop our beloved state together,” he said.

He expressed hope that the initiative would strengthen cooperation among the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the private sector, entrepreneurs and the public, while positioning Sabah more prominently at the ASEAN level.

“With mutual respect and trust as its foundation, this relationship makes ASEAN an important strategic partner for Sabah, particularly in tourism, trade and investment,” he said.
