The Sabah media has been strongly supportive of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment (KePKAS), said its former minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew.
She said journalists, reporters and photographers had, through their reporting and creative writing, consistently highlighted the ministry’s policies, programmes and projects for public awareness during her tenure from 2018 to 2020 and again from 2023 to 2025.
“We have enjoyed a good working relationship with media practitioners in Sabah.
“I take this opportunity to express my appreciation to the print and electronic media, as well as online news portals, for their excellent coverage,” she said.
Liew was speaking during a courtesy call by a district non-government organisation at her legal firm.
She urged the mass media to continue carrying out their work with sincerity, a strong sense of responsibility and a high level of integrity.
Noting that the newspaper industry remains relevant in the digital age, particularly in Sabah, Liew said that while younger, IT-savvy readers may favour online platforms, many older readers still prefer traditional print newspapers over social media.
“From time immemorial, newspapers have served as an effective tool of communication for both the public and private sectors in disseminating important information to the wider public,” she added.
