The Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture will organise the 11th Meeting of ASEAN Ministers Responsible for Culture and Arts (11th AMCA) in Melaka from October 22-24, 2024, following the successful 20th Senior Officials Meeting on Culture and Arts.
These AMCA meetings promote cultural collaboration and understanding among ASEAN member states and dialogue partners, including China, Japan, and South Korea.
Themed “Bridging Cultures, Building Futures: Unity in Diversity,” the meeting emphasizes celebrating cultural diversity, empowering youth, enhancing the creative economy, and accelerating digitalization in culture.
Key initiatives include the development of an ASEAN creative economy sustainability framework and a symposium on creative economy, led by Malaysia.
As part of the youth focus, the “ASEAN Youth and Heritage Forum” attracted over 200 participants.
Additionally, the ASEAN Festival of Arts will showcase diverse cultural traditions on the evening of October 24, featuring performers from Plus Three and Timor Leste for the first time.
During Malaysia’s two-year chairmanship of AMCA, Melaka will host various cultural programs, including the Melaka River Festival and the International Culture and Arts Festival.
Melaka, designated as the ASEAN City of Culture for 2024-2026, aims to deepen ASEAN identity and showcase the region’s rich heritage.
The opening ceremony will be officiated by Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Dato Sri Tiong King Sing, with key dignitaries in attendance.
