China has agreed to extend the visa exemption for Malaysian tourists from 15 to 30 days.
This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the 50th-anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and China in Beijing.
During a meeting with Premier Li Qiang, Ahmad Zahid proposed the extension, highlighting that Malaysia already offers Chinese tourists a 30-day visa-free entry.
He confirmed that both sides have agreed, and the implementation will follow once the agreement is signed.
Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang was also present at the ceremony held at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse.
Malaysia’s Ambassador to China, Datuk Norman Muhamad, mentioned that Ahmad Zahid had discussed this matter during his courtesy visit with Premier Li Qiang and received a positive response.
China has extended its visa-free policy for short-term visits to Malaysia and 11 other nations until the end of 2025.
This policy aims to enhance exchanges between Chinese and foreign nationals.
Last November, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a 30-day visa exemption for tourists from China and India, starting December 1 of the same year.
Ahmad Zahid emphasized that Malaysia-China collaboration extends beyond politics and economics to include education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges, strengthening bonds between the two societies.
The Deputy Prime Minister is on his first official visit to China from May 22 to June 1 at the invitation of Vice Premier Xuexiang.
