Sabah is gearing up for 10 MICE events this year, including the International Wholistic Wellness Conference and Expo (IWWCE 2024) and the 42nd Conference of the Asean Federation of Engineering Organisations (Cafeo 42).
Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew highlighted the significance of business tourism in driving economic growth, emphasizing the role of such events in fostering industrial development and local entrepreneurship.
With top-notch infrastructure like the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Sabah is positioned as a prime MICE destination.
Aggressive promotion by the Sabah Tourism Board, including through the Sabah Convention Bureau’s international roadshows, is enhancing Sabah’s appeal for MICE tourism.
Last year’s 34th Annual Scientific Congress of Malaysia Oncological Society, attended by over 1,000 delegates from Malaysia and the Asia-Pacific region, exemplifies Sabah’s growing prominence in hosting international business events.
The ongoing Borneo Expo 2024 at SICC serves as a platform for SME entrepreneurs to expand their networks and showcase their offerings, while also boosting Sabah’s reputation as an ideal MICE destination, said Liew during the launch of the expo.
With participants from over 10 countries, including Taiwan, Singapore, China, and Indonesia, alongside local attendees from various Malaysian states, these events underscore Sabah’s increasing appeal on the global business tourism stage.
