SICC to be a meeting place for all

KOTA KINABALU:  Sabah continues to showcase its role model as the epitome of harmony and tolerance in Malaysia during the Christmas Day celebration on Sunday.

The state unique values since time immemorial were displayed when a group of Muslims who had just returned from performing their pilgrimage in Mecca also joined the celebration together with the Christians at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC).

The pilgrims shared the same venue to hold their thanks giving in conjunction with the convention centre’s Christmas Day buffet brunch.

And once again the festive season had empowered the spirit of unity not only among the diverse communities in Sabah but also from different faiths.

SICC Chief Executive Officer Datuk Rosmawati Lasuki said: “Today not only the Christians are celebrating Christmas but the non-Christian and Muslims are also coming together to share the merriment.”

“I had just returned from performing the pilgrimage to Mecca on Dec 6-19, and today we hold a thanks giving for 50 families,” said Rosmawati.

“We are promoting a concept to make SICC as our second home for whatever occasions and celebrations to every one,” she said.

She said SICC wants to be a trendsetter in business events to turn Sabah into a vibrant state by offering international standard facilities to its customers.

“We want to make the convention centre as a meeting place for all Sabahans. For today event, we have 400 people booked for the buffet as food also unites the people.

“We are serving over 300 traditional festive dishes and international flavours at our Meranti Cafe here,” said Rosmawati.

With lifting of the Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, she said the convention centre was going all out to organise events for the people to help spin-off the state’s economy.

Now it is the time to celebrate among families, relatives, friends and employees after two years of lock down, she said.
