Eric Chong, Chief Executive Officer of Boost Biz said, “Regenerating and reviving the economy takes a collective effort. With the country kickstarting its recovery and Malaysians already embracing a contactless lifestyle, we are in a position to help expand the accessibility of eWallets and tap into its value to support the revival of local businesses within the tourism and travel industry that were hard hit by the pandemic.

“We are delighted that Sabah Tourism Board shares our vision in using fintech as a powerful solution for some of today’s problems that stem from this pandemic. We are happy to partner with the Sabah Tourism Board and confident that this collaboration will play a big part in regenerating Sabah’s economy by spurring spending in the domestic tourism sector.

At the same time, Boost and Sabah Tourism Board hope to encourage Malaysians to opt for a safer, contactless payment method to continue curbing the spread of COVID-19 while travelling,” added Eric.

According to Noredah Othman, Chief Executive Officer of Sabah Tourism Board, embracing opportunities with eWallets is a step towards reviving the state’s tourism industry.

“Sabah has long been a popular local and international tourist destination and was adversely affected during the pandemic. However, we anticipate strong recovery soon with interstate travel now open.

We are already seeing positive signs of tourists’ confidence returning, which will in turn revitalise the domestic tourism sector.

And with the consumer shift towards contactless payment methods, we believe that working together with Boost is the next step to promote spending and demand with local businesses by exposing them to a bigger, mobile-first customer base.

This, consequently, supports a safer return to tourism and travel activities,” said Noredah.
