KOTA KINABALU: Eye for the major Malaysian cities and civil servants to revive the Sabah tourism industry.
Kinabatangan-Corridor of Life-Tourism Operators Association (KiTA) President Alexander Yee reasoned that these two targets has the spending power, furthermore civil servants have been financially insulated during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“For the time being, domestic market is not the low-lying fruits because many people have been financially affected by the pandemic,” he said.
And we also have to allocate extra marketing funds to promote Sabah in the traditional destinations, he said, adding that we need to be creative in the marketing because other countries will be doing similar efforts.
Besides that, he said the continuing ban on inter-district and interstate travel has been detrimental to Sabah’s tourism industry, because of the state small domestic population base, despite being the second largest state in Malaysia.
He also encouraged the authorities to continue with the strict regulations that interstate travel would only be allowed after the individual obtained authorization letter from the establishment, in addition to the police approval letter.
Such measures has proven effective to curbing the spread of the virus during the Movement Control Order (MCO) as Sabah now under Conditional MCO. -HS
