Hotel industry is recovering gradually

The hotel industry, faced with unprecedented challenges, has shown remarkable resilience and adaptability.

Despite the trials of the past few years, the industry has proven its ability to overcome adversity.

Tourism, Culture, and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew spoke at the Sabah Hospitality Fiesta 2023, emphasizing the industry’s journey to recovery.

The Covid-19 pandemic forced hotels worldwide to temporarily close, leading to a significant decline in occupancy rates.

Recovery will be gradual, with luxury hotels experiencing a slower return to pre-pandemic levels compared to economy hotels.

Safety and well-being are paramount, leading to enhanced health and safety protocols, including strict hygiene measures, contactless check-ins and check-outs, and rigorous cleaning practices.

These safety measures have become standard in the industry, ensuring guests feel secure.

Liew highlighted the need for the industry to embrace new opportunities, such as harnessing technology, sustainable practices, and adapting to evolving guest demands, shaping the post-pandemic trajectory of hospitality.

The Sabah Hospitality Fiesta 2023 serves as a platform for sharing expertise, building partnerships, and motivating one another to create a promising future for the hotel industry.
