KOTA KINABALU: The new Malaysia low-cost airline, MYAirline has launched its inaugural flight to Kota Kinabalu International Airport today.
With this, more people can travel to Sabah at a competitive price.
Sabah Tourism Board chief executive officer Noredah Othman who was on hand to welcome the arrival of the flight which carried over 80 per cent load said now more Malaysians can visit Sabah to help boost the domestic market.
She expressed hope that the Sabah tourism will foster a closer collaboration with MYAirline to offer more destinations in the state.
She said domestic tourism has contributed immensely to the domestic market as over one million visitors were recorded as of October.
The new airline also operate to Kuching once daily; two daily flights to Kota Kinabalu and Langkawi via Kuala Lumpur, said MYAirline director Datuk Abd Hamid Mohd.
MYAirline is using Airbus A320-200 aircraft with a single class, 180-seat configuration.
More domestic routes will be introduced by the first quarter of 2023 from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu, Penang and Sibu, he said.
MYAirline is also the first airline in the world to be fitted with light, innovative and eco-friendly seats in line with the airline’s commitment to achieve its sustainability goal.
The airline’s ergonomically designed seats is manufactured in Italy and it can save about 800 kg of weight which translates to fuel saving.
The airline also emphasized the importance of safety regulations set by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and its professionalism to establish and maintain a system for aircraft operations.
