{"id":66,"date":"2020-02-16T18:13:49","date_gmt":"2020-02-16T18:13:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=66"},"modified":"2020-02-24T08:02:06","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T08:02:06","slug":"sabah-hit-4-million-tourists-in-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=66","title":{"rendered":"Sabah hit 4 million tourists in 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ChristopherChan-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-67\" width=\"148\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ChristopherChan-2.jpg 698w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/ChristopherChan-2-267x300.jpg 267w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 148px) 100vw, 148px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KOTA\nKINABALU: Hats off to Sabah tourism and all stakeholders for achieving the\ntarget of four million tourists arrival set for 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The overall record\nshows a total of 4,195,903 tourists from both domestic and international has\nvisited Sabah last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was an\nincrease of 8.2 per cent to 402,981 against 3,879,413 in 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe overall\ninternational arrivals total for 2019 was 1,469,475 against 1,361,567&nbsp;&nbsp; for last year (2018) with an increase of\n136,559 or 7.9 per cent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMalaysian\narrivals were recorded at 2,726,428 in 2019 compared to 2,517,846 in 2018, an increase\nby 266,422 or 8.3 per cent. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cInternational\ntourist arrivals comprised 35.02 per cent against the domestic arrivals total\nof 64.98 per cent from the total arrivals,\u201d associate and in collaboration with\nSmiths Gore Sabah, Christopher Chan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He made the\ncomment base on the data obtained from Sabah Tourism Board and Tourism\nMalaysia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAlthough\nChina continues to top the international arrivals throughout 2019 with the\noverall total of 598,566 compared to 593,628 in 2018, a marginal increase of 4,938 or 0.83\nper cent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBut, the\nsignificant arrivals from Brunei, Singapore and Korea has contributed towards\nachieving the four million target,\u201d Chan enthused.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>China contributed\n40.73 per cent to 598,566 of the overall international arrivals to Sabah in\n2019 to rank number one in the top 10 spots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Followed by\nSouth Korea (396,660 or 26.99 per cent); Indonesia (115,879 or 7.89 per cent);\nBrunei (78,605 or 5.35 per cent); Taiwan (45,550 or 3.1 per cent); Philippines\n(38,384 or 2.4 per cent); Singapore (34,435 or 2.34 per cent); United Kingdom\nand Ireland (29,575 or 2.01 per cent); Japan (24,435 or 1.66 per cent) and Australia\n(19,354 or 1.32 per cent).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He noted the outbreak of Wuhan coronavirus have wipe out the\nstrong contributions by all the industry players including the airlines and\nvarious government agencies with their foreign counterparts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYears of hard work and investments by both local and foreign\ninvestors are now halted immediately until a medical cure has been developed to\ncounter and cure this deadly virus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAll flights to and from China that has been our key tourism\ncontributor has been halted since the outbreak of this virus by the Sabah\nGovernment including many other countries,\u201d Chan said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The latest report from Malaysian Associations of Hotel indicated\nthat Sabah has the most number of rooms cancelled in Malaysia, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe even overtaking Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with almost 30,000\nrooms with an earning potential of over 10 million ringgits from Jan 22 till\nFeb 29,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides that, he said tour operators and tourist guides are also struggling\nto get business and assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSouvenir shops and seafood restaurants are very badly hit with\nsales dipped by 80 to 90 percent according to these operators,\u201d Chan said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even potential new hotels and resorts investors have thrown\ncaution into the wind on the town of Semporna and other parts of Sabah, he\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He urged all the stakeholders to come up with a new action plan to\naddress this critical situation immediately as there is no medical solution\nwithin the next few months and the recovery plan after that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>KOTA KINABALU: Hats off to Sabah tourism and all stakeholders for achieving the target of four million tourists arrival set for 2019.
