{"id":421,"date":"2020-06-04T12:01:19","date_gmt":"2020-06-04T12:01:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=421"},"modified":"2020-06-04T12:01:21","modified_gmt":"2020-06-04T12:01:21","slug":"revive-bamboo-related-products-in-tambunan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=421","title":{"rendered":"Revive bamboo related products in Tambunan"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"651\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/TambunanHS.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-422\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/TambunanHS.jpg 651w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/TambunanHS-300x221.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 651px) 100vw, 651px\" \/><figcaption>Dr Jeffrey (right) receiving a good bag from Patrisha<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>TAMBUNAN: Bamboo is aplenty in this valley town, which is the legacy of the British colonial period that ordered the locals to replant 20 bamboo sprouts for every bamboo cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dense forests of\nbamboo in this interior district has saw the rise of bamboo factories and\nfestivals but without much success due to lack of financial support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the tourism\nindustry needs a holistic approach including to revive bamboo related\nactivities as Tambunan, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC)\nDatuk Dr Jeffrey Kitingan suggested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow is the time to\nset up a bamboo plant and zen garden as a tourist attraction due to the growing\npopulation and increasing number of visitors,\u201d he said during a meeting with Tambunan\ntourism operators and Tambunan Tourism Association (TATA) committee members headed\nby its president, Patrisha Philip recently at the District Office here. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tambunan located 80\nkilometres away from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu have great potential to\nbe developed as popular touristic destination as TATA has identified many new\nproducts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, there are\nstill many unexplored potentials to be tapped and since the country\u2019s borders\nare temporarily closed for leisure travellers, the discussions with the federal\ngovernment have been focused on domestic tourism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the meeting, Dr\nJeffrey suggested a diversification of cultural products focusing the \u2018way of\nlife\u2019 that can attract tourists from the peninsula and Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The homestay programme\noperators were encouraged to promote agrotourism involving community development\nin collaboration with farmers, instead of competing with each other which\nhinder the access to larger markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the issue regarding\nthe trail of Trusmadi via the waterfalls, hill and Kampung Nandal areas, he said\nthe proposed route has been raised in Parliament but faced challenges due to\nlack of basic infrastructure, furthermore the area is under the management of\nthe Forestry Department.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides that, MOTAC has\nalso identified the potential of Mount Trusmadi, Mount Alab, Mount Wakid, Mount\nSinsing and Mount Koingaran where the routes have forest views compared to\nMount Kinabalu which is only highlands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, he said it is\nvery costly to build cable car unless it can attract foreign investors to come\nin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In near future, the\npromotion of tourism will be done online as the digitalisation activities will\nopen up opportunities for the people to indulge in videography to bring local\ncultures to the world, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also agreed with\nthe proposal to build the \u2018Welcome to Tambunan\u2019 signage in Mount Wakid and\nencouraged the paragliding operator to work together with TATA and Ministry of\nYouth and Sports to identify the suitable take off spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He also announced that a cultural village will be built in Keningau on a 100-acre site as well as upgrade the Oath Stone monument.&nbsp;-HS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TAMBUNAN: Bamboo is aplenty in this valley town, which is the legacy of the British colonial period that ordered the locals to replant 20 bamboo sprouts for every bamboo cut.
