{"id":42,"date":"2020-02-15T09:59:56","date_gmt":"2020-02-15T09:59:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=42"},"modified":"2020-02-24T07:53:19","modified_gmt":"2020-02-24T07:53:19","slug":"tomodu-paradise","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/?p=42","title":{"rendered":"Tomodu Paradise"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>EKO PELANCONGAN\nTOMODU PARADISE was opened on 1 May 2018, offering a riverine activities and\nlodging experience for visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"498\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191216_181147-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-46\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The development\nof the touristic site was a blessing in disguise as long ago it was a dumping\nground by the shameless communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"498\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/20191216_175143-1024x498.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-43\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Tonnes of\nrubbish could be seen dumped behind the century trees as the culprits bid to\nhide it from the public view.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fed up with the despicable act, the owner decided to fence-up the place and took the courage to turn it into a tourism site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And today the\nplace is attracting scores of visitors mainly local tourists and a handful of foreign\nholidaymakers from France and Germany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-gallery alignleft columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"540\" height=\"800\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TM0-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"123\" data-link=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/2020\/02\/15\/tomodu-paradise\/tm0-1\/\" class=\"wp-image-123\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TM0-1.jpg 540w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TM0-1-203x300.jpg 203w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 540px) 100vw, 540px\" \/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe managed to turn around this place into something that is beneficial for us as we have tirelessly cleaned up and beautified the place to welcome visitors,\u201d its owner, Junie Niah said (pic)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The acreage totalling\n11-acre is her family land inherited from their forebearers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAbout 3-acre\nwas cleared and developed into the recreation centre for visitors to enjoy and\nrelax,\u201d said the 45-year-old school teacher at SMK Paris, Kinabatangan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She added that\nduring the normal days the site is managed by her husband and she will only be\naround during the school term holidays.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe are\noffering a place for the people to relax, swimming, camping, lodging, river\nview of Wariou River, barbecue and fun activities including karaoke session at\nthe open hall,\u201d Junie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They also have\nthe bamboo rafts for the visitors to experience the traditional way to getting\nacross to the other side of the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"389\" src=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TMDriver.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-125\" srcset=\"https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TMDriver.jpg 800w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TMDriver-300x146.jpg 300w, https:\/\/holidaysabah.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TMDriver-768x373.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>According to\nher, part of the Wariou River is also under the tagal system (prohibiting\nfishing activity for a period of time) to increase the population of the marine\nresources in the river.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Breeding inside\nthe river is the pelian fish (mahseer fish) and overtime we have managed to\ntame the fish and slowly we will train them to do feet spa like other rural ecotourism\nsites, she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the\nmeantime, the villagers still continue to harvest the fish and last one was\ncarried out on March 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe harvesting\nday are decided by the villagers tagal committee which is usually start from 8am\nto 12pm. On average each villager could catch about 5 kilos,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Visitors can\nbook any of the 13 traditional style lodges and resting huts as well as the campsite\nfor those who wants to experience the outdoor environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have six traditional\nchalets style lodges and we are building another two now to be equipped with\nair-conditioned and attached toilets. This was done upon request and feedback from\nthe visitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt the moment all\nthe lodges are using fans and the common toilets outside of the structures,\u201d\nshe said, adding that they also provide portable gas and stove for those who\nwant to do cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the moment,\nthe operator has installed their own water tank to supply water to the visitors\nwhile waiting for the government to provide the treated running water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are also\nwaiting for the government to provide the power to the site for the convenient\nof the visitors who overnight there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cNow we are using our own power supply,\u201d said Junie who is learning the ropes from other established operators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said that\nthey are planning to introduce the fish spa either in the river or build a\npool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The recreation centre\nlocated in Kampung Tambulion was inhabited by the tembadau which is also known\nas banteng during the olden days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe villagers here\nhunted the wild cattle long time ago, but nowadays we don\u2019t see them here anymore,\u201d\nJunie said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The site of the\nrecreation centre is also near to the army paradise camp and located nine kilometres\naway from Kota Belud town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe name Tomodu\nParadise is coined from the tembadau and the paradise camp,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>EKO PELANCONGAN TOMODU PARADISE was opened on 1 May 2018, offering a riverine activities and lodging experience for visitors.
