A 37-year-old man in Kampung Serusup here was detained to assist in investigations into the possession of protected wildlife products.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The arrest followed a successful joint special operation by the Wildlife Crime Bureau (WCB) and the Sabah Wildlife Department (SWD) based on intelligence gathering and investigations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The operation team seized 300 eggs suspected to be Green Turtle eggs, with an estimated value of RM3,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The case is being investigated under the Wildlife Conservation Enactment 1997 for possession of products derived from a fully protected animal without valid authorisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
SWD views seriously any activities involving the possession, trade or smuggling of wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to ensure protected wildlife species remain safeguarded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Despite various behavioural change campaigns and public awareness programmes, demand for turtle eggs still exists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The demand continues to drive smuggling and illegal sales activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members of the public are advised not to buy, possess or consume turtle eggs as it is an offence under the law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Any information related to the sale or smuggling of turtle eggs should be reported immediately to the authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
