Luyang Assemblyman Samuel Wong Tshun Chuen said Sabah has strong natural attractions but lacks diversified products and new tourism offerings, resulting in shorter visitor stays and low return visits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He proposed expanding the sector beyond conventional attractions by developing new segments such as food festivals, agro-tourism, sports tourism, cultural events and e-sports, while positioning Sabah as a regional events hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, he cautioned that the presence of illegal tour operators and weak enforcement continue to undermine the industry, alongside ongoing concerns over urban cleanliness, which affect the state\u2019s tourism image and competitiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
