KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Association of Tour and Travel Agents (SATTA) has urged the government to subsidies the tourism industry as their cash flow is shrinking thick and fast following the Covid-19 Movement Control Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its chairman, Dato’ Seri Winston Liaw appealed\nrecently that the tourism industry needs urgent help and hoping the government can\nsubsidise 70 per cent of their employees\u2019 salaries and rental of premises for\nsix months starting from April to September.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe are in dire need of government financial\nhelp to overcome this crisis because the tourism industry has faced three\nmonths of zero income since January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have also suffered huge losses. We\nforesee many industry players could no longer sustain their business and will\nbe forced to lay off their employees,\u201d Liaw warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He stressed the employers have to bear the\nhuge overhead expenses from January to June because of the continuous six\nmonths of zero income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liaw hopes the government can emulate the measures\ntaken by Singapore and Australia who subsidised 75 per cent of their employees\u2019\nsalaries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis move will effectively help ease the\nburden of the tourism industry,\u201d he believes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Furthermore, he said the second economy stimulus\npackage only focused on the B40 and M40 groups which doesn’t solve the long\nterms problems that the whole industry facing.-HS<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
